Boat refrig works fine, then stops
« on: November 09, 2012, 06:31:35 pm »
I recently installed a new refrigeration unit, a db50 with an evaporator box.  I charged the unit according to the Kollmann books and on startup, the pressure is good and the box cools as it should with the compressor cycling on and off.

After about 12 - 18 hours, it quits cooling and the box no longer frosts over.  The compressor continues to run without stopping, no led lights, no frost on the box.  The compressor and high pressure lines are no longer hot.

After I turn it off and it warms up, the pressure is good after the 15 minuite wait and it starts cooling again.

Any suggestions and thanks in advance!

If this was a new unit why was it necessary to tamper with refrigerant?

Compressor now runs and cooling stops. After unit is off for a while and restarted it starts cooling again, this sound like moisture in system.

Is this an air cooled unit or water cooled?
 Who manufactured this system?
There must be some history of unit before it was installed in your boat, please describe. Did you dehydrate unit with a refrigerant vacuum pump, if so for how long?
